Le genere Gephyromantis ha essite definite per Paul Ayshford Methuen (en) in 1920 pro le specie Gephyromantis boulengeri. Blommers-Schlösser considerava este gruppo como un subgenere de Mantidactylus, ma es, altere vice, erigite al rango de genere in 2006.
