De Wikipedia, le encyclopedia libere

First of all, I do not like the way you treat visitors here, with FAQs and numbered remarks. That is very unpolite and totally annoying. Anyway, the person who is behind this bot must be a bad programmer, interlinking articles which clearly should not be linked/ Please, if you think that creating interwiki links can be done with a simple bot, just stop your activity, because this bot is screwing things up.

Concretely, this bot just linked de:Chemische Evolution with nl:Oorsprong van het leven. That is a total stupid mistake. If your bot can not understand the contents of articles, then please stop using it. It linked a lot of other wikipedia articles to nl:Oorsprong van het leven, including many in languages which even I can not understand, but I am sure there most f them are mistaken. Stop your bot please

Stop your bot please, it is making stupid mistakes and creating illogical interwiki links. Taka 20:35, 23 junio 2009 (UTC)

To be more concrete, please roll back all changes related to nl:Oorsprong van het leven, your bot has screwed it up very badly. Taka 20:37, 23 junio 2009 (UTC)

Synthebot

Excuse me, but I do leave a message about Synthebot here, because Synthebot does not seem to be home, and anyway I got lost all the different wikipedia where your account seems to be active, or not active and I have simply no idea if it is possible to reach the person behind Synthebot.

So here is my message again. PLease turn back all changes related to nl:Oorsprong van het leven, because the bot screwed it up badly. You can not just let those interwiki's be solved by a bot. Each wikipedia has multiple articles about related subjects, but your bot just picked a random one from each wikipedia to link them, resulting in totally differently articles being linked. If you want it solved: do it by hand. No other options. Taka (talk) 20:44, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

See. You do not even respond. That is the problem with bad bots. If you had a good bot, it would notice immediately that a message was posted here, it would read the message aloud or it would send you an email or notify you in chat or whatever you are doing while the bot is running.

There is one more advice: do not let your bot run on subjects that you yourself do not understand. Your bot can not be smarter than you, it can only be quicker.

Oh, and seriously, make your bot notify you when there is a message here. Taka 20:54, 23 junio 2009 (UTC)

Hello Taka. I reverted your edit where you linked nl:Oorsprong van het leven to en:Origin of life, because that link is a redirection to en:Abiogenesis. In my opinion nl:Oorsprong van het leven is not en:Abiogenesis, which links to de:Chemische Evolution.
I apologize if you do not like this page, but I did my best to do an efficient bug tracking system.
Regards, --Julian (disc.) 22:26, 23 junio 2009 (UTC)

I simply reverted the actions of your bot, because it was making interwikis not based on content, but based other existing (wrong) interwikis. Creating interwikis on these articles is not a job for a bot. So please if you wish to have the right interwikis on these articles, stop using a bot and stop simple revertions, but use your head and read the articles in the different languages. And if you do not understand the language, then simply stay away from it.
It may seem hard to understand, but an article in one language is not always 100% congruent with a similar article in another language. If an article in language A links to an article in language B with 90% congruency, and from language B there is a link to language C with 80% congruency etc etc, then bots are useless. And even the notion that there must be consequent interwiki links between languages is wrong. This seems to be the case here.
So please, undo everything your bot has done, and start thinking: reading articles and then deciding. But not just simply linking with your bot because somebody else created a link. If you want to interlink articles, you need to that by cluster of related articles. Create a square with horizontally all related articles in a language, and vertically the languages. Then decide which articles should be interlinked. That can not be done by a bot.
nl:Oorsprong van het leven is congruent with de:Entstehung des Lebens. Even though the de article is an official redirection and the nl article is not. So please leave that be. That is exactly right (even though your bot seems to think it is not).
Have you seen that de:Abiogenese links to en:Spontaneous generation and also to nl:Abiogenese? And that nl:Abiogenese links to en:Abiogenesis, which again links to de:Chemische Evolution? Probably not, because your bot does just look at a single article and forgets about clusters of related articles. Your bot is simply not fit for this work. Please realize that.
And no, I am not going to clear up the mess your bot has made of it all. I am just reverting what it has done on nl.wikipedia. Others will have to clear up the mess in other languages. Or leave it messy. It seems to be useless to try and do it right, because bots like yours will come along and turn it into a mess again.
Taka 04:17, 24 junio 2009 (UTC)
en:Origin of life has not always been a redirect, look for example at [1]. That version is congruent with nl:Oorsprong van het leven. I agree that after that has been made a redirect to en:Abiogenesis, the interwiki should be removed.
But if you think that nl:Oorsprong van het leven is not en:Abiogenesis, which links to de:Chemische Evolution, why did you make nl:Oorsprong van het leven link to de:Chemische Evolution ([2])? I simply have no idea why your bot is doing what it is doing, and probably you don't know either. And if for the few languages I can understand well enough to check the congruency, your bot does things wrong, how can the other interwiki's it does be trusted?
This is simply not a thing for a bot. Taka 08:02, 24 junio 2009 (UTC)

So, we both agree with the fact that nl:Oorsprong van het leven should not link to de:Chemische Evolution nor to en:Abiogenesis. If you are interested in my point of view about how interwiki links and interwiki bots should be used, please read this page. Thank you. --Julian (disc.) 21:07, 24 junio 2009 (UTC)

"we both agree with the fact that nl:Oorsprong van het leven should not link to de:Chemische Evolution"
Then why did you link them? Your bot is faulty. That is my point. And the next point is that I question if your bot made this mistake, which other mistakes has your bot been making.
Your point of view on interwikis for bots is interesting. Especially because it totally misses the understanding that a broader subject - which will be treated in multiple articles - often can not be simply linked with interwikis. Simply because in different wikipedia the splitting over different articles is done differently. The matter (around "origin of life") is a good example of that. You have not even tried to analyze which wikipedia had divided the subject into which articles. I am highly surprised that someone who works with a bot to create interwikis has not even given this issue a single thought. Please give it a thought asap. It will make the work of your bot better. Taka 23:31, 24 junio 2009 (UTC)

Does this archiving mean that you have chosen to ignore the bug in your bot? You do not even respond to the issue noticed here, no intention to fix your bot, no intention to stop using yur bot. What are you going to do with this?
Oh, and thanks a lot. The number of clicks for to get to this discussion now has risen from 6 to 7. Taka 11:43, 27 junio 2009 (UTC)

This bot is a pywikipedia bot. This archiving means that pywikipedia interwiki bots will not re-create the interwiki link you do not want. Regards, --Julian (disc.) 13:09, 27 junio 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining. There was no way of knowing what this archiving meant. The issue is however that your bot has a bug, and that needs to be fixed. This single interwiki link just shows that there is a bug. That bug is not fixed by creating an exception for a single issue. I do not really care what kind of bot you are running, please do not expect me to fix that bug. First fix the bug (or have it fixed), then you might consider carefully using that bot again. Taka 15:20, 27 junio 2009 (UTC)

The "bug" was that I accidentally linked "de" when I ran the bot in manual mode. By the time I was double-checking the edits, you had already posted the messages about this wrong interwiki link. I fixed it as soon as I could. I apologize for the inconveniences. Regards, --Julian (disc.) 15:54, 27 junio 2009 (UTC)
