Justinian I (latino: Flavius Petrus Sabbatius Iustinianus Augustus, greco: Φλάβιος Φλάβιος Πέτρος Σαββάτιος |ουστινιανός Flávios Pétros Sabbátios Ioustinianós) (c. 482 - 14 de novembre 565), traditionalmente cognite como Justiniano le Grande e alsi Sancte Justiniano le Grande in le Ecclesia orthodoxe, era le Imperator byzantin de 527 a 565.

In su regno Justiniano tentava a reviver le grandor del imperio e reconquirer le perdite Imperio Roman Occidental. Su dominio constitue un epocha distincte in le historia del imperio e su regno es marcate per le ambitiose, ma solmente partialmente realisate, renovatio imperii o "restoration del imperio".[1]

A causa de su activitates de restoration, Justinian ha essite appellate le "ultime romano" in historiographia moderne.[2] Iste ambition includeva le reprisa partial del territorios del defuncte Imperio Roman Occidental.[3]
