Alan Hovhaness (Somerville, Massachusetts 8 de martio 1911 - Seattle, Washington 21 de junio 2000), nate Alan Vaness Chakmakjian, era un compositor. Su obras include E Deo Creava Balenas Grande e su symphonia #2, Montania Mysteriose, cuje director de orchestra a su debut era Leopold Stokowski. Su patre era un armenio e su musica era influencite per le musica del tradition armenie e de altere culturas de Asia.[1]
Hovhaness collaborava con le choreographo Martha Graham e con The Living Theatre[2]. Su litteras de amor scripte a Judith Malina, le director del Living Theatre, son conservate in le archivos del Biblioteca del Universitate Yale [3].
